United Nations Secretary-General António
Guterres has arrived in Islamabad for a three-day official visit to Pakistan at
the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
According to the
spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Acting Foreign Secretary Nabeel
Munir received António Guterres upon his arrival in Islamabad. The UN
secretary-general’s visit will continue from today until October 8. According
to the UN spokesperson, Guterres will also visit the National Disaster
Management Authority (NDMA), where he will observe Pakistan’s preparedness and
capacity to respond to natural disasters.
In addition, António
Guterres will visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer
Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). During his visit, Guterres will also
hold discussions with Pakistani officials on diplomatic and mediation efforts between
the United States and Iran. They will also discuss Pakistan’s constructive role
and the regional situation. Guterres last visited Pakistan in 2022, when he
toured areas affected by devastating floods.
