Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has
said that no decision will be made to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the
seven conditions agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding reached in
Islamabad are fulfilled. Addressing a parliamentary session, Ghalibaf said the
United States had recently presented Iran with several proposals through
mediators, but Tehran would not accept unilateral demands. Without disclosing
details of the U.S. proposals, the Iranian speaker said the phase of wasting
time and imposing unilateral conditions was over. He said there could be no
question of reopening the Strait of Hormuz until Iran’s seven conditions under
the Islamabad memorandum of understanding were met.
Ghalibaf, who also served as Iran’s chief negotiator
during the talks in Islamabad, said Iran was neither under pressure nor afraid,
but was simultaneously active on the military front while continuing diplomatic
efforts. He said Iran was prepared to respond to any new action using its
military capabilities, while diplomatic efforts would also continue to
safeguard the country’s national interests and secure the rights of its people.
Referring to various statements by U.S. officials, Ghalibaf said Iran does not
determine its national security or overall policy based on social media posts
by American officials or statements issued on a daily basis. According to him,
Iran makes its decisions by examining the practical actions and actual behavior
of the opposing side rather than relying on rhetoric in the media.
