Three people were rescued from the incident. Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said that five Defense Ministry officers were arrested following the incident. Those arrested include the Navy’s First Deputy Commander. Authorities said the officers were arrested on suspicion of negligence and violating navigation regulations. Further investigations into the incident are underway. Kazakhstan’s Navy has approximately 3,000 personnel, who are stationed in the Caspian Sea. The Kazakh Navy is responsible for protecting energy infrastructure located in the Caspian Sea.
