Mobile phones have become an
essential part of everyday life, which is why accidentally dropping one into
water can be quite distressing. Instead of panicking, it is important to take
immediate and appropriate steps to prevent further damage to the device. If your phone falls into water, the first
step is to remove it from the water and wipe the exterior with a dry cloth. If
the phone has a removable battery and SIM card, they should also be removed.
However, modern phones with built-in batteries should not be opened or
disassembled. One traditional method is to place the phone in a container of
dry rice for around 48 hours, with the claim that the rice can help absorb
moisture. However, the effectiveness of this method is not certain, and rice
particles can enter the phone's ports, so it is not considered the safest
solution.
The most important thing is
not to turn the wet phone back on or attempt to charge it immediately. A hair
dryer should also not be used to dry the phone, as heat can damage sensitive
internal components and may push moisture further into the device. A vacuum
cleaner is sometimes used to remove moisture from a phone, but it should be
kept at some distance rather than placed directly against the device to avoid
potential damage from excessive suction. If the phone has been completely
submerged, exposed to saltwater or dirty water, or fails to turn on, it is
safer to have it inspected by a qualified technician or an authorized service
center as soon as possible rather than attempting home repairs.
