Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said that Israel should clearly communicate to its citizens what kind of conduct is expected of them while they are in Thailand. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, met with Israeli Ambassador Alona Fisher-Kamm on Tuesday. The meeting focused on alleged criminal incidents involving Israeli citizens.
The minister said that Thailand welcomes tourists, but that does not mean visitors of any nationality can do whatever they want in the country. He stressed that tourists should respect Thai culture and traditions. The Israeli ambassador expressed concern over what she described as growing hostility toward Israelis and Jews in Thailand, and said the meeting was open and constructive. Sihasak said he had asked Israel to take a more proactive role in ensuring appropriate conduct by Israeli citizens in Thailand.
