Severe flooding caused by heavy rains in Thailand
has caused widespread destruction, with the death toll rising to 23. More than
2.6 million people have been affected across 29 provinces and the capital,
Bangkok. According to media reports, flooding continues in several areas of
Bangkok, where water has yet to be drained at many locations. Daily life has
been severely disrupted as floodwater has accumulated on roads and in low-lying
areas, while schools remained closed for a second consecutive day.
As floodwater reached various parts of Bangkok,
the city’s drainage system and infrastructure came under severe pressure.
Authorities fear that continued rainfall could further worsen the situation in
some parts of the city. Videos circulating on social media show Bangkok streets
submerged in floodwater, with some roads resembling streams and waterways. One
viral video also showed fish swimming through the floodwater on a road. According
to media reports, the severity of the flooding has affected not only urban life
but also regional supply chains and economic activity. Growing pressure on
infrastructure has created several challenges for authorities, including
carrying out relief operations, draining floodwater, and protecting residents
in affected areas.
