Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met
with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman Al Thani in Beijing. According to Xinhua, Wang Yi said that under
the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries in recent years, the
strategic partnership between China and Qatar has made significant progress. He said China will continue to
provide strong support for safeguarding Qatar’s national sovereignty,
independence, security and stability.
Wang Yi expressed hope that Qatar
would continue to provide firm support on issues concerning China’s core
interests. He said China is Qatar’s most reliable and long-term partner in its
development and is ready to maintain communication and cooperation with Qatar
on international and regional affairs. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister said that Qatar firmly adheres to the One-China principle and opposes
external interference in China’s internal affairs.
He said Qatar is ready to further
strengthen communication and cooperation with China within the framework of the
United Nations and other international organizations, safeguard the
multilateral system, and promote global peace and common development.
