The U.S. Mint, a bureau of the U.S.
Department of the Treasury, has issued coins featuring the image of Donald
Trump, making him the first living U.S. president to appear on American
currency in nearly a century. The
one-dollar coin was issued as part of celebrations marking the 250th
anniversary of the United States. It features Trump’s portrait along with the
inscription, “In God We Trust.”
The coin is
the first U.S. coin to feature the image of a living president since a coin
bearing the portrait of Calvin Coolidge was issued in 1926. The U.S.
Mint has set the price at $61 for a roll of 25 coins and $154.50 for a bag of
100 coins. However, within a few hours of going on sale, the coins were listed
as “currently unavailable” on the U.S. Mint’s website.
