Global investors have withdrawn approximately $25 billion from India’s stock market. According to a report by Bloomberg, global investors have pulled around $25 billion out of India’s stock market, bringing foreign investment in the country to virtually zero. India, which until recently was considered one of the world’s most attractive investment markets, has now become Asia’s least-favored market, according to Bloomberg. The massive outflow of foreign investment has pushed foreign ownership of Indian stocks to its lowest level in 17 years.
Alongside the investment outflow, India’s currency is also facing severe pressure. The Indian rupee has continued to weaken against the US dollar, falling to a new record low. Among Asian currencies, the Indian rupee is currently the most heavily pressured and worst-performing currency, raising serious concerns in India’s financial markets.
