Two luxury flats in London
reportedly linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei have now been put
on the market for sale. The two properties are estimated to be worth around £36
million (approximately Rs 4.6 billion).
However, according to official land
records, the two properties are legally owned by Iranian businessman Ali Akbar
Ansari. Reports by The Telegraph and The Sunday Times said that Ansari had
taken loans from private lenders to purchase the properties. After failing to
repay the loan instalments, the lenders appointed receivers to recover their
money.
The two flats are now being prepared
for sale under the supervision of these receivers. One of the penthouses is
being marketed by Sotheby’s and Knight Frank for around £12 million
(approximately Rs 1.53 billion). The property is located on the sixth
and seventh floors of 3A Palace Green. Spanning approximately 3,944 square
feet, the five-bedroom penthouse features separate accommodation for staff and
a large rooftop terrace offering views of Kensington Palace. According to official land records,
Ansari purchased the penthouse in 2016 for approximately £19 million.
The second property was purchased in
2014 for £16.75 million. Both flats are located near the official residence of
the Prince and Princess of Wales. Knight Frank’s sales information
states that the property is in receivership, meaning that the receivers are
responsible for managing and selling it. The company has also said that it does
not have information about the property and that prospective buyers should
conduct their own due diligence.
It is worth noting that Ali Ansari
has been sanctioned by both the UK and the US over allegations of providing
financial support to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In October 2025, the British
government imposed sanctions on Ansari, including an asset freeze, a travel ban
and restrictions preventing him from serving as a company director. Former UK
Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer had said that Ansari played a
significant role in financially supporting the IRGC’s activities.
US officials have also accused Ali
Ansari of using wealth acquired from Iran to establish a large network of
properties and businesses overseas. Ansari is reportedly believed to have a
property portfolio worth more than £140 million in London. According to reports, the proceeds
from the sale of these flats could be frozen by the government because of the
sanctions. However, the final sale price and full details of the legal process
involved have not yet been disclosed.
