According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missiles were launched from near the eastern coastal city of Wonsan at around 5:20 a.m. on Saturday and traveled approximately 250 kilometers. South Korean and U.S. intelligence authorities monitored the launches from the beginning, while information about the missiles was also shared with Japan. An analysis of the missiles’ type and other technical details is underway.
Following the missile launches, South Korea’s Presidential National Security Office convened an emergency meeting attended by officials from the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other relevant agencies. The meeting reviewed the potential impact on national security and discussed possible next steps.
