According to a report by an international news organization, President Zelenskyy called for an end to the war and described Putin as the main driving force behind the conflict. He said Russian generals have been attempting to seize parts of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine on Putin’s orders for five years. He added that Russia has suffered heavy casualties in exchange for limited territorial gains, with approximately 249,000 Russian troops killed or seriously wounded during the first eight months of this year.
The Ukrainian president warned that the scope of the war is expanding beyond Ukraine, citing the involvement of North Korean forces alongside Russia as an example. He said North Korean troops have suffered heavy losses, while Pyongyang has received military benefits, including missile and drone technology, in return for its cooperation. Zelenskyy claimed that Russia is becoming a threat not only to Ukraine but also to Moldova, Poland and the Baltic states, while the sovereignty of countries in the South Caucasus and Central Asia is also not being respected. He said the greater freedom Putin is given to take action, the greater the risks will become for other countries around the world.
