US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent,
announcing the sanctions, said that sanctions had been imposed on 36 entities
for supporting Iran’s aviation supply network. He said Iran uses the aviation
sector to transport weapons and illicit goods, adding that airlines involved in
transferring weapons to Iran had been targeted with sanctions.
Scott Bessent said the US had
requested reports on networks supporting Iran’s aviation sector, while the
licenses of three companies that authorized flights through Iranian airspace
had been suspended. He said foreign financial institutions could face sanctions
for conducting transactions with Iran. He warned that those dealing with
Iranian airlines risk being cut off from the global financial system.
