Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has decided to dismiss 7,019 foreign teachers as part of the first phase of major reforms in the education sector. According to foreign media reports, the move aims to address the surplus of approximately 33,268 teachers across various subjects and save the national treasury around 42 million Kuwaiti dinars annually.
The Ministry of Education said the first phase includes 1,551 male and 5,468 female teachers. The affected teachers will be officially notified through the government’s “Sahel” app, while their legal and employment rights and financial entitlements will be fully protected. The scheme, launched on the instructions of the Minister of Education, primarily aims to align the number of teachers in schools with actual staffing requirements.

The Ministry of Education clarified that dismissals are not being carried out across all subjects at the same time. Recruitment will continue in subjects where there is an actual shortage of teachers.
