Aden: Colonel Majed al-Nuzaili, spokesperson for
Yemen’s internationally recognised armed forces, has said that the Houthi rebel
movement, Ansar Allah, launched missile attacks on the international airport in
Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, and the Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace. In a
post on X, al-Nuzaili wrote that the Houthi militant group was targeting Aden
Airport and the Al-Maashiq Palace with ballistic missiles. He said the attacks
on airports highlighted the contradiction between the Houthis’ statements about
lifting the blockade and its actual implementation against the Yemeni people.
He also provided an update on the progress of Operation Dawn of Yemen against
the rebels. According to al-Nuzaili, government forces had carried out 1,087
successful operations in recent hours, using fighter jets, drones and
artillery.
A local security official said that two powerful
explosions were heard near the Al-Maashiq Palace in Aden’s Crater district,
where Yemen’s internationally recognized government is based. Following the
attack, air defence systems engaged drones over key government institutions. No
immediate details were available regarding casualties or damage. It is worth
noting that the Al-Maashiq Palace has been targeted in previous attacks as
well. On October 15, five people were killed and 16 others injured when five
missiles struck the area. Aden Airport has also come under repeated attacks in
recent days. On Wednesday, explosions were reported near the airport following
an evacuation warning issued by the Houthis, prompting authorities to suspend
flights. The airport reopened on Thursday after repair work was completed.
