The German government said it is convinced that Russia was behind last month’s failed attempt to carry out a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport. In response, Berlin announced several measures against Russia, including the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the termination of an agreement with the Russian House, a Russian cultural center in Berlin.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said intelligence indicated that those involved in the attack had been acting on instructions from Russian state institutions. According to him, police investigations, the modus operandi, and intelligence evidence collectively point to Russian responsibility.
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Germany does not view the Leipzig incident as an isolated event, but rather as part of what appears to be Russia’s broader hybrid activities across Europe. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova described Germany’s measures as anti-Russian actions and said Moscow would respond, although she did not provide details of any possible countermeasures.
