Tucker Carlson, a critic of
U.S. President Donald Trump, has claimed that the United States has approved
the delivery of 40,000 2,000-pound bombs to Israel. According to Tucker
Carlson, four members of the U.S. Congress played a leading role in securing
approval for the move, and these lawmakers are among prominent recipients of
donations from the pro-Israel lobby. Speaking to U.S. broadcaster National Public
Radio (NPR), Carlson said the destructive power of these bombs is six times
greater than that of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. He said the bombs
are being provided to Israel as a “gift” because the U.S. government will also
cover their cost, with funding approved by the U.S. Congress.
According to U.S. sources,
the relevant congressional committees have already been informally notified
about the matter. Reports indicate that a large portion of the package will be
provided through U.S. foreign military assistance. However, the U.S. State
Department has not formally commented on the pending arms sale. According to
reports, these bombs have also been supplied to Israel in the past. Concerns
over civilian casualties resulting from their use led the previous U.S.
administration to halt the delivery of one shipment in 2024. Tucker Carlson, a
U.S. political commentator, has criticized the move, saying that the funding
for the arms package ultimately comes from U.S. financial resources. He has
also raised questions about the policy positions of some members of Congress
regarding Israel.
