Several incidents of fallen trees and downed power lines were also reported. The severe weather has affected a large number of electricity customers and caused major disruptions to air travel. More than 445 flights were canceled and over 3,000 flights were delayed during the week. States of emergency have been declared in affected areas of New York and New Jersey, while residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from coastal areas. According to the U.S. weather service, the risk of strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding is expected to persist across the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.
