Somali-born, hijab-wearing woman Sagal Abdi-Wali
has secured a notable victory in a by-election for a seat in the British
Parliament in London, becoming a Member of Parliament. According to British
media reports, the seat became vacant following the resignation of former
British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and the election produced a decisive
result after a closely contested race.
According to figures reported by the media,
42-year-old Labor Party candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali won the election with 12,292
votes, defeating her rivals. In her first statement after the victory, she said
that representing the constituency was a great honor and that local residents
were looking forward to the prospect of a better future.
According to the election results, the Green
Party candidate finished second, followed by the Conservative Party candidate
in third place and the Reform UK candidate in fourth. Following the Green
Party's defeat in the by-election, the leadership of its leader, Zack Polanski,
has also come under considerable pressure. Political analysts view Labor’s
victory in the constituency as a significant development in the current British
political landscape.
