As the U.S. midterm elections draw
closer, President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to one of its
lowest levels, with a new Pew Research Center survey putting his approval
rating at just 30 per cent. The decline comes amid growing
dissatisfaction with Trump's performance on foreign policy, the economy, and
the enforcement of immigration laws. According to the survey released on
Thursday, 68 per cent of respondents disapproved of the way Trump was handling
his presidential responsibilities.
Since returning to the White House in 2025,
Trump's approval rating has continued to decline. His current rating is
approaching the lowest level recorded during his presidency, when it fell to 29
per cent in the final days of his first term following the January 6, 2021,
attack on the U.S. Capitol. According to the survey, only three in ten
Americans approve of Trump's overall performance as president, while 68 per
cent disapprove.
Dissatisfaction is also growing among voters who
supported Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Pew Research Center noted
that his approval rating has declined among his previous supporters,
particularly younger voters and Hispanic Americans. Among Hispanic voters who
backed Trump in 2024, only 57 per cent now approve of his performance as
president.
The survey also found that 69 per cent of
Americans do not trust Trump to keep his personal business interests separate
from his presidential decision-making, while only 30 per cent expressed
confidence in his ability to do so. Public confidence in Trump's ability to
handle major issues, including the economy, foreign policy, and immigration,
has also declined by nine percentage points. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party
holds an eight-point advantage over the Republican Party ahead of the midterm
elections, according to the report.
