Famous American actress Susan Sarandon was arrested in New York for protesting against Israel outside the United Nations headquarters. According to reports, Susan Sarandon called on the United States to halt military aid to Israel during the protest. The demonstration took place during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address at the United Nations General Assembly session. Meanwhile, Orthodox Jewish members of a group in New York also protested against the Israeli prime minister’s speech. The demonstrators chanted slogans in support of Palestinians and voiced objections to Israeli policies.
Outside the United Nations General Assembly, intense protests took place during the arrival and address of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Demonstrators chanted strongly against the Israeli government and its military and expressed anger over what they described as genocide. During the protest, participants prepared an effigy of Netanyahu dressed in prison clothing with the word “Devil” written on it. The protesters symbolically hanged the effigy, openly expressing their strong opposition to the Israeli prime minister’s policies. Some demonstrators also displayed a plastic pig’s head mounted on a stick, with Netanyahu’s nickname “Bibi” written on it. Protesters wore bags over their heads bearing images of nooses, which they presented as a message directed at Israeli leaders.
Placards carried by the protesters also included calls for the death penalty and hanging of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. During the demonstration, Israel was compared to Nazism, while loud chants in support of the Palestinian Intifada echoed through the area. To highlight the humanitarian tragedy caused by the ongoing war in Gaza, protesters carried dolls wrapped in blood-stained sheets, symbolically depicting the deaths of innocent children in Gaza as a result of Israeli military operations and questioning the international community’s silence.
