In a statement, the Israeli Foreign
Minister said that Tel Aviv would not remain silent in the face of the
sanctions imposed by the British government and would take retaliatory
measures. In response to the British sanctions, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon
Saar announced retaliatory measures against London. These measures include
removing British government representatives from the Kiryat Gat military base
and banning 12 British lawmakers and citizens from entering the occupied
territories. The Israeli government also announced the closure of the British
Consulate in occupied Jerusalem as part of its response.
Earlier, Gideon Saar had hinted at
decisive retaliatory action in response to London’s recent sanctions against
Israeli officials and institutions. The Israeli Foreign Minister subsequently
formally announced that Tel Aviv would not remain silent in the face of the
sanctions imposed by the British government and would take retaliatory
measures.
Britain had earlier announced that
it would impose sanctions on products from illegal Israeli settlements in the
West Bank. British media reported that the move was part of a broader shift in
the country’s relations with Israel.
