If War Resumes, U.S. Ships Will Be Targeted as Far as the Indian Ocean, IRGC Says

Ali Mohammadi, deputy for political affairs in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, has warned that if war breaks out again between the United States and Iran, Iranian forces could target U.S. warships as far as the Indian Ocean. According to Iranian media, Mohammadi was responding to the U.S. position on the Strait of Hormuz. He said that if U.S. President Donald Trump considers the Strait of Hormuz to be under American control, U.S. warships should approach the area.

Mohammadi said that if the United States claims control over the Strait of Hormuz, it should send one of its warships near the strait to prove its position. The IRGC Navy official claimed that Iran’s military capabilities are not limited to the Strait of Hormuz and that, in the event of a new war, Iranian forces could also take action against U.S. naval vessels and destroyers as far as the Indian Ocean. The statement comes amid continued naval tensions between the United States and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz. In recent weeks, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has also issued several strongly worded statements regarding U.S. naval assets and maritime activities in the Strait of Hormuz.
