New Zealand’s Parliament has
been dissolved, officially marking the start of the election campaign for next
month’s general election. According to foreign media reports, the final sitting
of the country’s 54th Parliament was held on September 23, while the general
election will take place on November 7. This election is expected to see a
closely contested race between an opposition bloc led by the center-left Labor
Party and the governing right-wing coalition. Overseas voting will begin on
October 21, while advance voting will start on October 26. During the election
campaign, rival political parties are focusing on key issues including the cost
of living, economic management and public services. New Zealand’s previous general election was
held in October 2023. The maximum term of the country’s Parliament is three
years.
