A senior Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives has expressed opposition to the sale of $2.8 billion worth of weapons to Israel.
A senior Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives has expressed opposition to the sale of $2.8 billion worth of weapons to Israel. He raised concerns about whether the weapons would be used in accordance with U.S. and international law. Representative Gregory Meeks said he would not approve the sale because he remains concerned about the potential use of these weapons in densely populated areas of Gaza and Lebanon.
Despite Meeks’ objection, the arms sale is unlikely to be halted. When the proposal is formally presented to the U.S. Congress, Secretary of State Marco Rubio could bypass the normal congressional review process by citing national security concerns. The proposed sale comes at a time when the Trump administration is strengthening Israel’s military capabilities despite growing international isolation over the war in Gaza.
