Senior official of Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement, Mohammed Al-Bakhiti, has claimed that the Houthis have gained full control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait. According to Iranian media reports, the Houthis have captured strategically important areas and military bases, including Al-Khaled and Jabal Al-Nasr, in Yemen’s Taiz province. They have also reached the entrances to the strategic Al-Mocha (Al-Mokha) port along the Red Sea coast.
Iranian media further reported that the Houthis have taken control of Al-Mocha Airport, while a large number of resistance fighters have surrendered. The Bab al-Mandab Strait is an internationally important maritime route for the transportation of oil, gas, and food commodities. Meanwhile, Al-Mocha is considered highly strategic because its location allows monitoring of ships operating in the Red Sea and also holds significant military importance.
President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, said that changes in the military situation near Bab al-Mandab could have repercussions as far as the Suez Canal. He warned that the current military situation around Bab al-Mandab could affect global trade, stressing that protecting Yemen’s coastal areas is a responsibility shared by Yemen, Arab countries, and the international community.
