Egyptian President Abdel
Fattah El-Sisi arrived in South Korea on Wednesday, the first stop of a
three-day official tour. During his official engagements in South Korea, he is
scheduled to hold summit-level talks with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi landed at Seoul Air Base as the
first stop of his Asian tour. In the subsequent stages of his trip, he will
visit Malaysia and Indonesia.
South Korea’s Yonhap News
Agency, citing the South Korean presidential office, reported that President
Lee Jae Myung had invited El-Sisi to visit the country, and the two leaders are
scheduled to meet today (Thursday). The talks are expected to focus on ways to
strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure and the economy, as
well as promote people-to-people ties between the two countries.
South Korean presidential
spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said that regional political developments and other
international issues would also be included on the agenda. Seoul expressed hope
that the visit would help elevate relations with Egypt to the level of a
strategic partnership and strengthen cooperation in Africa and the Middle East.
It is worth noting that this is El-Sisi’s first visit to South Korea since
2016. The two leaders last met in Cairo in November 2025, when President Lee
visited Egypt. The two countries are expanding cooperation in the areas of
trade, investment and defense industries, while also seeking to establish
closer cultural and educational ties.
