US President Donald Trump has dismissed White
House Press Secretary Katie Zakaria just five days after appointing her to the
position. According to media reports, Trump had earlier advised Zakaria to
reconsider her decision to take up the role during a conversation with
journalists. The president made it clear that he had told her he would
certainly think twice about accepting the position if he were in her place.
It is worth noting that Zakaria was appointed to
the key position on October 10, replacing former White House Press Secretary
Karoline Leavitt. Shortly after her appointment as the new press secretary,
questions began to emerge about her law degree and professional credentials.
During her first press briefing, Zakaria claimed that
she had worked in the legal field before entering politics. However, there is
no verified record establishing that she is formally registered as an attorney
or a member of the bar in any US state or the District of Columbia.
Following mounting criticism, Zakaria had
previously issued a clarification, acknowledging that she had failed the bar
examination on her first attempt and had not retaken it. She defended her
decision to describe herself as a lawyer, saying she had consulted people
working in the legal profession. According to her, they had told her that she
could identify herself as a lawyer and provide analysis on legal matters,
provided that she did not offer formal legal advice.
