The administration of U.S. President Donald
Trump has announced that the United States will not launch any
military operation or attack against Iran before the midterm elections
scheduled for November. According to Al Jazeera, White House Deputy Press
Secretary Anna Kelly made the statement during a press
briefing while responding to a question about an alleged discussion between
President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding
targeting Iran’s leadership. She said that, according to President Trump, Iran
is currently in an extremely weak position, both economically and militarily.
The deputy spokesperson also claimed that,
despite Iranian naval activities in the Strait of Hormuz, global oil shipments
under U.S. protection are continuing at record levels. Kelly explicitly stated
that the United States would not attack Iran before the November midterm
elections. President Trump had previously indicated that he would avoid war
before the elections, although the option of a major military operation could
remain on the table afterward. The White House statement contradicts Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Washington was prepared to
provide immediate support for eliminating Iran’s leadership.
