Japanese
Ambassador to Pakistan Shuichi Akamatsu inaugurated the Tine Girls Model
Primary School in Tarnol, Islamabad District, under a project aimed at
improving educational facilities for girls. According to a press release issued by the
Embassy of Japan, the project was completed by the non-governmental
organization Community Services Program (CSP), which works to improve access to
education, healthcare and clean water, as well as promote women’s empowerment
among disadvantaged and vulnerable communities across Pakistan.
The
Government of Japan provided $44,025 in financial assistance for the
project under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects
program. Officials from the Embassy of Japan, CSP representatives, teachers,
female students, parents and local residents attended the inauguration ceremony.
CSP successfully completed the construction of the school, which includes eight
classrooms and other essential facilities, such as a principal’s office,
washrooms, a levelled playground and chairs for 250 students. Using its own
resources, CSP also installed a solar power system, an underground water
storage tank, an electric water cooler and an interactive smart board to
support digital learning. The project was launched to address the urgent need
for better access to quality education for girls in Tarnol, where young girls
face barriers to pursuing their education. The newly constructed school
provides 240 enrolled students with new learning opportunities and a safe,
comfortable and modern educational environment, with a capacity to accommodate
250 students.
Addressing
the ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated CSP on successfully completing
the project despite challenging weather conditions. He emphasized that
education is not only a fundamental human right and a key pillar of human
security but also the foundation of a better and more prosperous society. He
stressed that girls’ education is particularly important for Pakistan’s future.
For this reason, education remains a key priority in Japan’s development
cooperation with Pakistan. Ambassador Akamatsu reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to
continuing its support for Pakistan’s sustainable development and expressed
hope that the school would stand as a lasting symbol of the longstanding
friendship and cooperation between Japan and Pakistan.
